
Leigh Colts away at Sedgley Park, 15th February
Line-up: Oliver C, Ellis, Oliver D, Jermaine, Reece, Jack, Sam, Zack, Ali, Stephen, Aidan & Will.
True to form, the Colts travelled with a depleted team, mustering twelve men against a big set of Sedgley Park Tigers. The Colts journeyed down the M60 with an impressive 10-3 win record.
The game had the additional novelty of a Dutch referee, resplendent in bright orange.
The moist and sticky conditions made for an early penalty fest, with Leigh being reduced to eleven when Oliver C was sent to the bin after 15 mins.
Leigh almost broke the deadlock moments later when Ellis went over, but the try was ruled out for a forward pass.
In the 22nd minute, Leigh got on the scoresheet with a well-crafted try by Reece. Ali tagged on the extras (0-7).
The Tigers were next to see yellow for a high tackle as Leigh began to dominate possession and territory.
Against the run of play, a charge down pinned Leigh on their own line, but solid defence kept the Tigers at bay.
Another Tigers yellow soon followed, with the referee’s whistle dominating in a scrappy game.
With the half-time break in view, Leigh scored an excellent try. Reece fed Aidan with the ball starting in their own half. The conversion was missed (0-12).

With four minutes of the half gone, Leigh bravely ran the ball from their own try-line. Ellis found room out wide with a deft kick and chase seeing him win the footrace for a fine try. Ali converted the difficult kick (0-19).
Ten minutes later, in monsoon conditions, Leigh extended their lead with Aidan getting on the end of a flowing move. Ali added the conversion (0-26).
With ten minutes of the game left, the referee produced the fourth card of the game with Will being sent to the bin.
Leigh held off a late charge from the Tigers with some bruising tackling as the clock ticked down.
Coach Pilky’s muddy dozen tamed the Tigers for another excellent win.
