Leigh RUFC 1sts Show Pre-season Promise

Leigh RUFC traveled to Eagle to play their final trial match.
Conditions were ideal and the Leigh team put on a very encouraging display.

The squad of 25 players which included a number of new faces showed their intent of making the first 15.
The club coach, along with his back room staff must be delighted with the level of fitness and enthusiasm shown by his players.

The trial was really a one way procession against a spirited team that was playing three leagues below Leigh last season.

McCabe crashed over after 8 minutes of relentless pressure, followed by Millard showing aggression and skill to cross near the posts. The young and promising back row man Costello showed his metal with a well taken try, quickly followed by a further one by battle hardened Travis.
Two well taken tries by the lively Eagle scrum half gave Eagle a little respectability. The game was taken away from Eagle by further tries from centre Everitt, McInstry, D, Woods, Robinson, Duffy, Shepherd and Dyson, 9 tries being converted by kickers Elliot Ryan, Rob Drake and Marcus Williams.

The Leigh management team must be well pleased with the quality and commitment shown by last seasons Colts, however, next Saturday will be a real test when the team squares up to Aldwinians in the first round of the Lancashire Trophy
