Time runs out after a gutsy performance.

Leigh travelled to Kirkby Lonsdale with a slightly changed side from last week:- Tom Baker returned at Prop, Chris Mayren came in at No. 6, for the injured Alex Middleton-Adams and Steve Millard was persuaded out of retirement to start at No. 8, for Chris Boyle who broke his arm last week against Kendal.

The game was full on from the kick off with both sides throwing everything at each other, Steve Millard leading the way for Leigh in his typical, no-nonsense style.

It was Kirkby Lonsdale, however, who were the first to score after five minutes when their scrum half robbed a ball from the base of a Leigh scrum, fed their supporting No. 6, who was stopped just short, before, in turn feeding his back row partner No. 7, who dived over for a converted try.

Kirkby went further ahead, after twenty minutes, when Elliot Ryan was adjudged to have intentionally knocked the ball forward about fifteen metres out. Elliot got a yellow card and Kirkby got 3 points.

From the restart, Leigh spilled the ball in midfield and the Kirkby Outside Centre streaked away down the left hand side for a converted try. Kirkby 17 Leigh 0.

Just before half time Kirkby punished Leigh with another break down the right hand side which culminated in a try for their No. 7, who went over for his fifth try in two games. Half time Kirkby 22 Leigh 0.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Leigh side emerge from the Sheds and they were soon rewarded for their efforts, when Iain Wood drove over, following a lineout near to the Kirkby line, which Rob Drake duly converted.

Leigh just got better and better after this and started to dominate the game especially in the lineouts.

A brilliant Andrew Gorski break after seventy two minutes, found Elliot Ryan in support for him to gallop away for an unconverted try. Kirkby 22 Leigh 12.

Within two minutes of the restart, another bit of Andrew Gorski magic made space for Jimmy Wilkinson to race away to put Kieran Duffy over on the right hand side for a try, which was spectacularly converted by Rob Drake. Kirkby 22 Leigh 19.

The next six minutes saw Leigh battering away at the Kirkby defence but unfortunately time ran out and Kirkby managed to hang onto their slender lead for a victory.

Final Score Kirkby Lonsdale 22 Leigh 19.

This was a gallant and gutsy display from the Leigh lads who so very nearly caused an upset.

Next week Leigh are at home to Warrington, who are currently top of the League after two consecutive bonus point wins.
