Leigh lose battle of the promoted.

Leigh came up short again yesterday against a mediocre Blackburn outfit. Both teams won promotion last year but both teams are a shadow of their former selves this season.

Blackburn were the first to get the scoreboard clicking when they were awarded a penalty for a high tackle on two minutes.

Leigh were quick to respond through Rob Drake, who dummied his way through four minutes later to score near the right hand corner flag. Unfortunately, Rob could not convert from wide-out.

Ten minutes later Blackburn created an overlap on the right to scorch over for a converted try and this was soon followed by a brilliant piece of skill by the Blackburn Left Winger, Sean Hall, who leapt like a salmon to take a high ball and offloaded in the same movement to a supporting player who streaked away for another converted try.

Within five minutes Blackburn recorded another seven points from a Leigh mistake to go off at half time leading 24 points to 5.

The half time team talk must have been a harsh one because Leigh came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second half.

They were soon rewarded for their efforts when Elliot Ryan stepped and dummied his way through for an unconverted try.

From this point on Leigh completely dominated the game and had all the possession. The introduction of Steve Millard and Alex Middleton-Adams worked wonders and Blackburn were pegged back in their own half for long periods. Unfortunately, Leigh only managed to score one more try through Kieran Duffy during this period of ascendancy and the game ended Leigh 15 Blackburn 24.

Plenty to work on this week in training! Next week Leigh entertain fellow strugglers Broughton Park at home in a must win match.
