Leigh blown away by Broughton Park.

After achieving promotion to North One West at the end of last season, Leigh have continued to struggle this year due to at least half of last year’s squad being either injured or unavailable.
However, hopes were high going into this game that, even with a depleted squad, they would register their first win of the campaign against fellow strugglers, Broughton Park earlier today at Hand Lane. Those hopes were soon to be dashed.
A confident Broughton Park side took the game to Leigh from the first minute and they were rewarded with a try after fifteen minutes when their constant pressure paid off and they squeezed in at the corner for an opening try.
Leigh quickly countered this, within five minutes, when a scintillating break by full back, Jimmy Wilkinson, put away Ollie Shepherd to even up the scores.
Leigh extended their lead just before half time when Elliot Ryan slotted a penalty from 28 metres out.

Broughton Park were the first to score in the second half when a well worked move put away their right winger for a converted try.
Leigh lost a player to the bin on 57 minutes and Broughton Park immediately seized on the extra man advantage to get their right winger over for his second try of the game.
This was swiftly followed two minutes later when their right winger completed his hat trick.
Things went from bad to worse for the Leigh side when Broughton Park were awarded a penalty try on seventy minutes for an infringement in a maul (resulting in a further yellow card) which was converted but the icing on the early Christmas cake for Broughton Park came from a further two tries by their right winger, one of which was converted.
