Leigh welcomed their old friends from Blackburn to Round Ash Park yesterday and their ranks were bolstered by the return of Alex Leadbetter, Rob Drake and Chris Boyle.
Blackburn were quick out of the blocks and registered their first points of the day when they drove over the Leigh line for a converted try after only three minutes of play.
A penalty from Leigh’s Rob Drake narrowed the deficit after ten minutes and Rob Drake was also the creator of Leigh’s next score when he drew Ollie Farley onto a flat pass for Ollie to scamper through for a well taken try which was converted by Elliott Ryan.
Leigh continued to dominate the half and were unlucky not to add to their total before the half time break. The teams went off with Leigh leading ten points to seven.
Blackburn came out in the second half with all guns blazing and quickly leveled the scores through an early penalty.
Leigh lost Chris Boyle through a serious head injury, which reduced their ranks to fourteen men and had a devastating effect on their morale.
This advantage was quickly exploited by Blackburn who went on to completely dominate the remainder of the second half scoring six tries, five of which were converted.
Final score Leigh 10 Blackburn 50.
A very disappointing day for the Leigh side which was exacerbated by the serious head injuries sustained by their very influential Number 8, Chris Boyle. The Club wishes Chris a very speedy and successful recovery.
