Leigh dominated the early stages, but were pegged back when Rochdale moved upfield, and opened the scoring with an easy penalty.
Leigh again had a period of dominance, but could not breach the defensive line of the home side, who worked hard to spoil Leigh possession. Penalties by Elliot Ryan, and Dave Harrison gave Leigh a deserved interval advantage, with the promise of more to come.
The second half , saw a complete turn of fortune as Rochdale began to gain territorial, and possession advantage. Leigh were now under the cosh, and were under increasing pressure. The key decision saw skipper Iain Wood harshly sent to the bin. Rochdale took full advantage of the extra man to create the overlap for the decisive try. Leigh worked manfully for the winning score, but found the home defence in determined mood.
Despite the defeat, Leigh look to be on an improving curve as their squad nears full fitness for the games ahead
