A minor triumph for all the players, coaches and supporters who had remained positive through a difficult period - Report by Steve Crompton

After one of the most difficult starts to a league season in their history, Leigh silenced their critics with a battling performance to record a fine away win.

There was the added bonus, in that the game also counted as the quarter final of the Lancashire trophy in order to alleviate the fixture pile up.

The game started well for Leigh when hooker Peter Ince latched on to a loose ball to open the scoring. Elliott Ryan kicked a fine conversion, but Ince left the field injured to be replaced by young prop Ethan Gornall.
Leigh continued to dominate and David Wood was unlucky to see his effort waived away as referee Mr Barclay was unsighted. Broughton Park now came more into the game, and assumed control when their pacy backs scored two convert ed tries to record an interval lead.

Park continued to dominate early in the second period, but Leigh gradually began to wrestle the initiative. Ince returned to the fray, joined by Graham Robinson from the bench.
Robinson in tandem with Calvin Crompton now began to control the forward exchanges as Leigh started to win the territorial battle.
Ryan converted a difficult penalty to reduce the arrears and Leigh were soon back on the attack.

Patience and aggression were now the watchwords as Leigh laid siege to the Park line. This paid off as the defence was stretched to the limit allowing Crompton to use his strength to power beneath the posts for the winning score.
Ryan converted, and Leigh comfortably saw out the last five minutes for a hard earned victory.

This was a minor triumph for all the players, coaches and supporters who had remained positive through a very difficult period, and the hope is that it could be the springboard for a charge up the table.
