Leigh entertained Birkenhead, in what proved to be a highly competitive game against a title seeking outfit.
Leigh had lost heavily in the away fixture, but were in no mood for a repeat performance.
They dominated the early exchanges and were rewarded when skipper Iain Wood scored from an impressive catch and drive.
This was quickly followed by a charge down by Alex Middleton-Adams who scored with ease.
Elliott Ryan converted to give Leigh a twelve point lead. Birkenhead now came more into the game as the interval approached. Leigh were forced into desperate defence, but only conceded when hard working forward David Penn was sent to the bin.
Birkenhead were to dominate the early part of the second half, and scored two more converted tries to take control. Leigh battled their way back into the game, but a Ryan penalty was to be their only reward, plus the losing bonus point.
Again this was a strong performance by Leigh against a strong club with more financial clout, and perceived wisdom remains that the side are in good shape for the late season battles.
