Leigh produced an excellent performance against old rivals from Lancaster

Leigh produced an excellent performance against old rivals from Lancaster, having lost heavily in the reverse fixture.

Vale started stronger as the home side were making the errors, to give away the all important field position. Their pacy full-back Nick Royle scored out wide, quickly followed by a second from the forwards, both of which went unconverted.

As the break approached Leigh began to assume a supremacy they were not to relinquish. The forwards began to pick and drive, with a very low error count. Vale with their pacy back division rendered impotent, were now firmly on the back foot. Under this pressure scrum half David Wood was allowed to control the game and he went over in the left corner for an unconverted try.
This was followed by an excellent penalty from Elliott Ryan into the teeth of a strong wind.

The second half belonged to Leigh as their forwards began to dominate possession. Ryan kicked a second penalty, but Leigh allowed the lead to slip when they failed to cover a kick allowing the Vale left wing to score in the corner.
This was to prove of little consequence, when Steve Millard restored the lead with a hard earned try, converted by Ryan.

The Leigh backs were now controlling defensively, as the forwards again laid siege to the Vale line.
It was not pretty rugby, but it was effective, as hard working second-row David Penn scored by the posts, to give Ryan an easy conversion for the final score of the game.

This was an outstanding win for the full eighteen man squad, who have never allowed their effort to fall in what has been a difficult season.
