Another narrow and frustrating defeat for Leigh, with the usual consolation of a losing bonus point, and the satisfaction of reflection upon another good performance despite the loss.
Leigh started the stronger, but were twice undone by breakaway tries from the pacy Broughton Park right winger, who benefitted from Leigh errors. Leigh refused to let their efforts drop and continued to batter the visitor’s line.
They were finally rewarded on the stroke of half-time when Kieran Duffy provided the scoring pass for Calvin Crompton. Elliott Ryan converted.
With the wind in their faces, Leigh had to work hard for field position, but a delightful long ball from Rob Drake sent Rob Shepherd over, but Ryan could not convert.
Both sides were to have periods of dominance in the second half, but neither looked likely to score, and the visitors were delighted to hear the final whistle, with Leigh camped on their line.
