Leigh had their first away Coach trip of the Season yesterday when they travelled to Whitehaven to take on their old friends and adversaries, St. Benedicts.
Leigh started the game well and with a bit of luck could have been at least two tries up in the first ten minutes but it was a Matty Rudd penalty that eventually got them onto the scoreboard.
The remainder of the half saw St. Benedicts gain momentum but some brilliant Leigh defence kept them at bay and the sides went off with Leigh leading by that solitary penalty at the half way point.
St. Benedicts came out for the second half with all guns blazing and soon registered two converted tries and a penalty to lead by seventeen points to three.
Leigh, however, rallied and good approach work saw them get Jake Westwell over for a very well taken try, down the left, to set up an interesting final ten minutes.
St. Benedicts defended well in this final period and added another penalty in the dying seconds, to take them off as worthy winners by twenty points to eight.
Next week Leigh host Southport at Round Ash Park. K.O. 2.15 p.m.
