Leigh 66 Whitehaven 7

It was never going to be easy for Whitehaven on their visit to Leigh but more so when they only had a bare 15 players.
Leigh who had set up with two heavy-weight props on the bench, were rubbing their hands in anticipation of 80 mins with no opposition interchanges.
Starting the match at a fast and furious pace the home side pounded the visitors defence. It stood firm for ten minutes before it was eventually breached with a try by the in form Robinson converted by Rob Drake.
As the match progressed the Leigh scrummage was winning the ball at will, both with and against the head, and it was only a matter of time, despite some resolute tackling by the Whitehaven team, before Graham Robinson crossed the line for his second converted try.

To add to the visitors woes possession from the lineouts looked all too easy for David Penn and Co. Some delightful interplay between the Leigh backs and forwards gave Ross Shepherd a clear run to the line Rob Drake converted.

Half time Leigh 26 Whitehaven 0

Leigh coach Vila Matautia., with astute manipulation of substitutes, cranked up the pressure on the visitors, who, to be fair stuck to their task manfully.
Once again it was Ross Shepherd on the score sheet with a try scored by use of quick hands and straight running.

As Leigh rotated their props, the Whitehaven pack was grinding down on the large pitch and was now being shunted from pillar to post at a rapid pace of knots. From one such scrum Robinson sold a dummy, raced to the try line and promptly put the ball into the surprised Dave Woods hands for yet another 7 points.

Leigh seemingly took their foot off the gas giving the visitors a taste of possession, which was readily accepted when good interplay found Leigh's defence wanting for a well deserved converted try.
Adam Dyson then showed his class with a determined run on the left flank to score in the corner,
Jimmy Wilkinson added a brace to his seasons haul and the match ended with Ryan McKinstry scoring in the corner.
Leigh's ten tries with 8 of them converted by the reliable boot of Rob Drake for a 66 to 7 victory.
