Leigh 44 v Heaton Moor 0

Heaton Moor, although hovering around the relegation zone, were desperate to make an impact on their visit to Leigh and started like they meant business.
They quickly had Leigh on the back foot, depriving the home side of possession and keeping them firmly locked in their own half for the first 10mins.

Gradually the Hand Lane outfit clicked into gear and after around ten minutes Rob Drake punished them by slotting the ball between the sticks for a three pointer.
Two minutes later it was Rob Drake again, evading would be tacklers to chalk up another five points.

Moor'were now visibly weakening as their initial full blooded all out attack approach caught up with them and quickly conceded another seven points when Jimmy Wilkinson ran around a floundering defence to cross the line.
With the Leigh forwards now taking command, ably led by skipper David Penn it came as no surprise when Paul Hampson forced his way over the line.

Half time Leigh 20 Heaton Moor 0.

The second half had Leigh searching for the bonus try which came after five minutes of continuous pressure when the outstanding Alex Middleton Adams put the icing on the cake to secure the 5 points needed.

Leigh were now in their comfort zone and reversed the pressure of the first 10mins of the first half with Heaton Moor having to put in tackle after tackle to keep Leigh at bay.

Tom Baker was next on the score sheet when after fifteen minutes he took a cleverly offloaded ball and crashed over for a converted try.
It was now all Leigh with scrum half Dave Wood using an abundance of possession to set the talented Leigh backs loose.
The final try came when Sean McDonald crossed for his first try in Leigh colours,

Full credit to Heaton Moor, who despite losing key players to injury stuck manfully to their task. We wish them well for the future as a club of their history, facilities and infrastructure could and should be at L6 in the not too distant future.

Catching the eye for Leigh was Domenic Yarwood, deputising for injured skipper Iain Wood and a much improved Keiron Duffy.
