LEIGH WIN IN STYLE

Unbeaten on their own turf for over two seasons the Saints were brought down to earth in forty minutes of breathtakingly rugby by a rampant Leigh outfit chalking up a thirty one points to nil lead.
First to cross the line was the games outstanding player, Steve Millard, try duly converted by the reliable boot of Rob Drake.
A penalty after twenty minutes duly converted by Rob Drake and Leigh were ten points to the good.
Three minutes later, Sean McDonald took advantage of a loose ball to score unopposed again Rob Drake converting.
Astute line kicking by the in form Leigh stand off put Leigh deep into the home sides twenty two, a driving maul executed by the well drilled Leigh forwards enabled Grahame Robinson to get the final touch putting seven more points in the bag.
The end of the first half could not come too soon for the home team, unfortunately for them in the thirty ninth minute full back Jimmy Wilkinson showcasing his pace and skills plumped the ball under the sticks Rob Drake, once more, converted.

Starting the second half with a strong breeze in their favour Leigh faced a much more resolute home XV.
Sharing more of possession. It came as no surprise when their winger got the first score of the half.
Leigh showed that they intended to keep a firm grip on this match, Dave Woods, combining experience, and speed with a blind side break to score wide out. Leigh now down to fourteen men after the over enthusiastic David Penn received his customary yellow card, nevertheless continued to pressure the opposition. Another late try in the seventy ninth minute by Keiron Duffy ended what was one of the best displays by a Leigh XV for many a season.
Leigh's travelling supporters and players alike would like to thank all St. Benedicts officials, supporters and players for their hospitality which was second to none.
